Rio Platano - The Mosquitia, Gracias a Dios, Honduras C.A.

The Banana River of the Mosquito Coast, located in the (state/department) of "Thank You God", Honduras, Central America. Our mission team (3 members) return from Las Marias after spending December 31, 2005 to January 3, 2006 with the indigenous Miskito and Pech Indians of this area. Local families return downstream with our team to the base camp before departing for other areas. The trip up river takes 5 hours in a pilpante (canoe) and 15 gallons of fuel for the 15 horsepower motor. This area remains in need of both physical and spiritual help after the heartbreaking devastation of Hurricane Beta tore through the area last fall.
